au meme — YunJae; Starbucks AU
Yunho is a barista at Starbucks and Jaejoong is… a little obsessed with this tall cup of coffee.
Jaejoong didn’t really like going to get coffee in the winter. It was too cold. There was only one drink he liked and it was iced. He wouldn’t drink anything else. He normally just didn’t drink coffee in the winter because he hated drinking it hot. That was, of course, until he was dragged into the Starbucks across the street from his apartment by his best friend and he met the most beautiful man he’d ever seen in his life.
Jung.
That’s what his name tag said, anyway. Jaejoong didn’t know his first name. Yoochun kept telling him to go after Coffee Boy—as Jaejoong had so lovingly named him—but Jaejoong didn’t have the guts to do something like that. He wasn’t openly gay and Coffee Boy was so popular with the younger girls. Jaejoong was sure he was straight. He’d taken to dragging Yoochun to starbucks every morning so Yoochun could get a coffee and Jaejoong could stare at Coffee Boy while he made Yoochun’s Mocha.
“Goodmorning you two, the usual?”
Jaejoong’s heart skipped a beat. He’d looked right at him and smiled with those beautiful brown eyes shining. Jaejoong felt a little faint. He stared longingly at Coffee Boy as he took Yoochun’s money and went off to make his drink. Jaejoong moved to the pickup counter and leaned against it, staring at Coffee Boy with no shame—mainly because he wasn’t aware he was doing it. He jumped a little when Coffee Boy looked up and smiled at him.
“How come you never order anything?” he asked, his beautiful voice making Jaejoong swoon a little more against the counter.
“I-I don’t drink coffee in the winter. It’s too cold to drink my Iced Caramel Macchiato.” He chuckled nervously and looked down at his hands. He heard Coffee Boy laugh softly and Jaejoong’s legs went weak. God, he was so hot.
“I have a request.”
Jaejoong’s heart stopped dead in his chest. A request? What kind of request? A please stop stalking me kind of request? Or a take your clothes off kind of request?
“O-okay,” he managed.
“Wait around for another 20 minutes and I’ll make you a drink when my shift is over—totally on me. I’m going to make you a drink you’ll love that suits the weather. If you like it, I win and if you don’t, you win.”
Jaejoong chewed his lip out of habit and tried not to reach across the counter and pull Coffee Boy into a soulseering kiss because, damn, he was seriously making Jaejoong’s heart flutter and his pants begin to tighten. He couldn’t help but take this as some kind of… proposition.
“What happens when one of us wins?”
Coffee Boy smirked. He leaned closer, sliding Yoochun’s drink towards him—who was pretending to be completely oblivious to their conversation, simply taking the drink and turning his back on them—and smirked in a way that caused Jaejoong to whimper slightly.
“If you win, I have to make you free Caramel Macchiatos all summer. If I win~” he leaned in a little more and pressed his lips to Jaejoong’s ear, stopping Jaejoong’s heart and making him shudder. His voice became low and barely a whisper. “I get to take you out to dinner, and then take you home.”
Jaejoong could feel Coffee Boy’s lips curl into a smirk against his ear and he was glad the counter was in front of him for him to hold onto or else he would be on the floor right now. He had to grip the counter to stop himself from jumping over it and taking this beautiful, tease of a man right on the floor.
He took a deep breath and let his eyes flutter shut. “You have yourself a deal,” he whispered back, taking a step away and grabbing Yoochun’s arm, leading him away—his heart still beating so fast he felt his ribcage would break.
20 minutes later, Jaejoong took a sip of Coffee Boy’s hand made Caramel Peppermint Green Tea latte. Jaejong had never seen this on the menu, nor did he think it sounded like it would taste good, but what touched his lips was the most magical thing that had ever been in his mouth. He stared down at the cardboard cup in his hand in total shock before looking up at Coffee Boy, who was grinning like a happy cat. “I win,” he whispered softly, crossing one of his legs over the other and letting his foot slide down Jaejoong’s calf. Jaejoong’s heart flipped in his chest and he got the worst case of the butterflies in his life. His eyes sparkled. “You win,” he whispered breathlessly.
“I’ll meet you here at eight~” Coffee Boy chimed, standing and grabbing his bag. He walked towards the door before turning and saying with a huge smile, “Oh, and Jaejoongie… My name is Yunho.” With that he turned and left, leaving a stunned and incredibly happy Jaejoong behind. He’d called him ‘Jaejoongie’ and Jaejoong felt like he was going to die.
“Yunho…” he whispered to himself, letting the name roll off his tongue.
He smiled down at the drink in his hand and touched his cheek, warmed from his blush. For once in his life, he was glad he was so picky about his coffee.

“Ten years…”
Jaejoong smiles softly, pulling himself out of the past. They sat in the very coffee shop they’d met in. It was their 7th anniversary. Yunho had proposed to him after three years of dating. They couldn’t get married in the eyes of the law, but they were married in every other way possible. They’d had a party and reception. The only thing that hadn’t been picture perfect was the fact there was no priest and they weren’t bound by law. Jaejoong could care less about some stupid law.
“Yeah,” he whispers softly, watching as Yunho slides his hand across the table and places it on top of Jaejoong’s. “Ten… long, strange, wonderful years.” He looks up and catches Yunho’s eyes. He takes a sip of his Caramel Peppermint Green Tea latte—his all time favourite drink since that day that Yunho had taken him out to dinner and stolen his heart before taking him home. They hadn’t had sex that night. Jaejoong had expected them to, but Yunho had just laid beside him and held him close as they slept. Jaejoong had never felt so loved in his whole life. They’d made love the following morning before Yunho had left for work. Yunho had proved to him the night before that it hadn’t been about sex—it had been about him. They’d dated for three months before Yunho told Jaejoong he loved him. Jaejoong had cried because they’d fought the night before and Jaejoong had been so scared he was going to lose him. Yunho was his rock. Yunho was the thing that kept him sane. They’d spent 10 long years together and he wouldn’t change anything for the world.
Jaejoong smiles and chews his lip. “So where are you taking me today?” he asks, peeking up at Yunho through his eyelashes.
Yunho just smirks and tilts his head to the side. “I’m going to take you out to dinner, and then I’m going to take you home.”
Jaejoong smiles brightly, those same words echoing in his ears from years ago.
“You win,” he breathes as Yunho plays with the ring on Jaejoong’s finger.

His phone rings.
Yunho grunts, his hand looking for the device in the dark, trying to find a way to make the unbearable sound stop. He mentally makes a note to put his phone on silent tomorrow before he accepts the call.
“H’lo?” he mutters sleepily, putting the phone next to his ear. He’d rather not answer the call at all but this is no hour for a random idiot to call him just to ask him how he’s doing and the reason for this call might be very serious.
“Hello?” the voice on the other side of the line is very familiar but Yunho can’t exactly place it. The voice seems to have lived only in his memories until now and to hear the vivid sounds of an unknown voice so familiar unsettles him. “Am I speaking with Jung Yunho?”
“Who’s this?” Yunho asks, his voice still thick with sleep. He’s trying to remember whose voice this is but he can’t exactly put his finger on it.
“Kim Jaejoong,” the man continues speaking without giving Yunho the chance to realize what actually is going on and when Yunho does, it’s already too late. “I want to invite you to my wedding. It’s the 24th of July and it’s at…”
Suddenly, everything made sense to Yunho. There’s a pain ripping at his heart but he ignores the feeling. He’s finally fully awake but he’s wishing fervently that this is just a dream. “I’m sorry,” Yunho interrupts the man and he’s careful to control his trembling voice. He doesn’t want to hear any of this anymore. “You’ve got the wrong number.”
He hangs up without giving Jaejoong the chance to say another word.
They both know that his words were not true.

p/s: I cried a good hour when reading these fics, had a few dreams about these fics, and literally sobbed to my sister regarding these fics. I’m still hungover about how great these fics are (they’re all oneshots), just give them a read!
